When we had a free Saturday a few weeks ago we decided to go to the beach, but didn't really want to go all the way down to Santa Cruz to surf. Instead we threw the SUP on the top of the car and drove to the Alameda shoreline. It's only about 45 minutes away and there was no one else there.
Our last couple of beach trips have taught me a lot about my children. Lucy jumped right in the bay, which fortunately is a little warmer than the open ocean. Joyce was a little timid at first, and then once she decided it was comfortable and safe she went into the water as deep as we'd let her. She was fearless and had a wonderful time. Lydia asked Grandpa to hold her and decided she was freezing even out of the water. She spent the majority of the trip wrapped in towels sitting in a beach chair eating fruit snacks and relaxing.
Danny went paddle boarding and even took Lucy and Joyce out a little
ways sitting in front of him. It was a beautiful day. After Dad and
Danny played frisbee we headed over to Bake Sale Betty for lunch, one of
the high points to coming to Alameda/Oakland:)
